Family Vacation Headquarters: Williamsburg, Va
One of our all time favorite East Coast Vacations, particularly for the family is Williamsburg, Va. We've been there 4 times, starting with a complimentary 3 day time share stay, and this is where we purchased our first time share. In the end, it was quite expensive as the company kept raising maintenance fees and there was no way to sell the time, much less give it away as it would have come with the dues. But that's another story.
However at our stay we stayed twice at Greenspring Plantation and twice at Powhattan, both at the time Sunterra properties, and for the family , we'd recomend Powhattan as the kids had more free access. The units are not as modern and there's not the "wow" factor, but the overall atmosphere was friendlier.

If you wanted the fancier pool that Greenspring had, you could always drive over from Powhattan. But this vacation was not about the accommodations as much as it is the things to do.

Obviously one of the major attractions at Williamsburg is "Colonial Williamsburg" for the re-enactments, and then the colonial era taverns and eating. This can easily take an entire day to "do" although it's only a few blocks long. Of course you want to come back a night for some of the haunted theme or murder mystery theme things.
Shopping is of course another great recreational activity; Then there's the museums. All told, it's a solid day, and if you are there in June, July, or August, be prepared for it to be HOT.
Tied into the colonial history theme are the tours of the Jamestown colony.. again, at least a helf day.
Let's say you are at Williamsburg, Va for 5 days.
Things to do in the Williamsburg, Va Area: Williamsburg Area Attractions
While not directly tied in, just down the road is the Busch Gardens theme park. So much to do there, so much fun for the family. So a day is spent there.
Of course you can't get this close to the Ocean, so you are going to get up early and spend a day at Virgina Beach. Again, be prepared for hot. The oceans has been great every time we've been there.
Another day.. if you are a golfer, and you want to stay close to your condo.. great golfing in Williamsburg.
Let's go south again, and get up early. This time you head for Norfolk and spend time in the harbor. You can tour a battleship and we suggest a harbor cruise, and to be different, take it on a sailing ship. Tour the Norfolk Naval Base from the water side. Then back on shore at Norfolk, some great museums.
There's military base tours with the Army in the area.. the transportation museum.
Then back to Williamsburg again, there's a great "all you can eat" seafood buffet restaurant.. and last time we were there they even had king crab legs on the buffet bar! All you can ea t. Be prepared for long lines and costs in the area of $25 a person, but you know what crab legs alone at a good restaurant can run.
